“This is the bread that comes down from heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die.” John 6:50
Malawi is one of the poorest countries in the world, placing in the bottom five annually for decades. HIV-AIDS, Malaria, malnutrition, and other diseases have devastated this country. 16.7 percent of children under 18 are Orphans and Vulnerable Children (1.5 million). Out of those children, almost one million have lost one or both parents to HIV/AIDS. According to UNICEF, one-fifth of Malawian households care for orphans and vulnerable children. A majority of these families do not have the resources to provide necessary nutritional, educational, or medical care.
Established in 2014, Manna House Malawi currently operates three orphan care centers outside the capital city of Lilongwe in Matchakaza, Mtambo, and Msechi villages, opening in 2016, 2019, and 2022 respectively.. The name, Manna House, comes from John, Chapter 6, in the Bible. Jesus reminds His audience of the food, which was called manna, which came from heaven. The manna that the people ate only sustained them physically, however, Jesus said, “I am the Bread of Life” (John 6:35) and those who eat of that bread will have eternal life (John 6:51). The mission of Manna House Malawi is to share the gospel of Jesus Christ while providing meals and other forms of care and support to the orphans of Malawi.
Manna House Malawi, located in Matchakaza, Mtambo, and Msechi Villages, rural but populous areas on the outskirts of Lilongwe, exists to bring hope to the hopeless by giving these orphans the care they need to live healthy lives.. Orphan children are often taken in by extended family, but those families are usually unable to provide even their basic necessities. Nutrition, health care, and education are out of reach for these orphans. That is where Manna House Malawi helps. Manna House Malawi gives hope to these orphans by providing a nutritional daily meal, some basic health care, school uniforms, and school supplies.
In addition to providing for the orphan children, Manna House Malawi provides a positive economic impact on the surrounding community by employing men and women from the surrounding villages during the construction of the care and feeding center.
Cooks, managers, and other support personnel are provided ongoing employment at Manna House Malawi.
The Manna House Malawi Board of Directors serves as the oversight group for this ministry and is responsible for ensuring that the vision and purpose of Manna House Malawi is fulfilled.

What We Do
Touching The Lives of Many
The Kingdom Kids
The children served by Manna House Malawi are affectionately known as Kingdom Kids. These children all come from the villages surrounding Manna House Malawi. Their guardians apply for their enrollment in Manna House Malawi. When an application is submitted, the manager of Manna House Malawi, in cooperation with the Traditional Authority (Village Chief), investigates and determines the validity of need. Once the need is verified, the child is invited to become a Kingdom Kid.
Manna House Malawi serves orphans from infancy through adolescence to include some older teenagers. Statistics vary, but all agree, most orphans do not receive adequate education. Manna House Malawi helps to equip these children through learning based programs and tutoring that includes reading and other vital skills.

Our cooks begin the day at sunrise with cleaning and food preparation. Our cooks are widows and wives from the local villages and are incredibly hard working women. They love what they do and enjoy working with the children. The job they have at Manna House Malawi enables them to provide for their own families, which was something they struggled with before Manna House Malawi.
Monday through Saturday at 11:00 am, we hold a preschool that is available to all preschool aged children in the village. The children are taught English and songs through the use of learning centers. The kids close their time with a Bible story and a prayer each day.
The school aged children are required to go to school in the local village Monday through Friday. Our managers check the children’s school attendance and their progress weekly. We feel that education is vital to their development and future. Many of the Kingdom Kids were not attending school before they entered our program.
Each day, the school age children begin arriving at the center around 1:00pm. At this time, they are led in songs and a Bible story and/or lesson with scripture. The children also recite the previously learned scriptures at this time. Around 2:00 pm, roll is called and the children bless their food. After washing their hands, they receive their food. After finishing their meal, the children rinse their plates. The older children also help the younger ones. The day ends with more songs with the children and a dismissal prayer. Then the older children, typically teenagers, meet with their mentors, tutors and/or complete homework before departing for their home.
Each day the children are fed one nutritious meal at Manna House Malawi consisting of the following:
- Staple: Rice or Nsima (Nsima is a dish made from maize flour and water and is a staple food in Malawi)
- Protein: Beans and Soya
- Vegetable: Tomatoes and Greens
